About The Church of St. James the Great, Norton

The Church of St. James the Great, Norton is an active Church of England parish church on Norton Church Road in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The Grade II* listed building holds Sunday services at 10:30 am and 6:15 pm, with a Tuesday service at 9:00 am.

Its oldest surviving features are Norman, including an inner entrance in the south porch dating from the 11th century and six reset stone corbels. Most of the west tower is Early English Gothic, as is the font, while much of the remaining fabric is Perpendicular Gothic. The five-bay north aisle dates to around 1200, and the south aisle was added in the 14th century. A chapel to the south was finished in 1524. During 19th-century restoration work, a vestry and organ chamber were added, and the south porch was reconstructed. The tower contains eight bells cast or recast in 1896.
