About Christ Church Pitsmoor
Christ Church Pitsmoor is a Church of England parish church at 257 Pitsmoor Road in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Situated in Pitsmoor, to the north of the city centre, it is listed at Grade II and is affiliated with Inclusive Church.
The church arose from the creation of a separate Pitsmoor parish as Sheffield’s northern neighbourhoods grew during the nineteenth century. Flockton & Son, a Sheffield architectural firm, prepared the design, and building work spanned 1849 and 1850. The consecration was held on 15 August 1850. Financial support came from both the Ecclesiastical Commissioners and individual donors. Repairs and improvements were undertaken in 1907, while the font, pulpit and many other interior elements were renewed six years later. Mosaic work was installed on the floors of the baptistery and chancel. Among the stained glass are a 1903 eastern window showing the Crucifixion and Ascension, and a pair of northern windows installed in 1915. A hall was built beside the southern elevation in the 1980s.
