About Christ Church Fulwood
Christ Church Fulwood is an active Church of England parish church on Canterbury Avenue in Fulwood, Sheffield. It has a conservative evangelical identity and remains a place of Sunday worship and weekday activities for different age groups. The building has held Grade II listed status since 28 June 1973.
The church was founded in the late 1830s on land called Round Stubbing. Phoebe Silcock of Whiteley Wood Hall provided the site and £2,200 towards construction, while nearby farmers carried the building stone without charge. Designed by R. Potter, it had its foundation stone laid on 16 August 1837. George Pace designed substantial additions in 1953, including a southern aisle, enlarged chancel and east end, and new vestries. Ronald Sims added a northern aisle and gallery, rear stairways and turrets in 1981. A copper memorial near the pulpit commemorates Silcock as the founder.
