About All Saints and St. James
All Saints and St. James is a Church of England parish church in Silkstone, within Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It belongs to the Diocese of Leeds and remains the village’s parish church. The church is recognised for its national architectural and historic importance through its designation as a Grade I listed building.
A place of worship may have occupied the site during the Saxon period, although the surviving church has origins dating to no later than the twelfth century. The present building is chiefly Perpendicular in style. Significant alterations were carried out in 1495, while the chancel was reconstructed over several years between 1852 and 1858. Among the church’s notable surviving features is a set of six bells.
