Saint Cuthbert’s is a Church of England parish church on St Cuthbert Street in Wells, Somerset. Sometimes confused with Wells Cathedral, it remains a place of worship, with a Sunday service at 10:45 am. The church is protected as a Grade I listed building.
The dedication may indicate earlier Saxon roots, while the present building originated in the 13th century. Columns from that early phase remain, although extensive 15th-century changes introduced the clerestory and an angel-adorned roof above the aisled nave. Much of the southern exterior uses dressed Doulting stone, while rubble masonry with cut-stone details characterises the north. The present west tower replaced a central structure removed or lost by 1561; including its pinnacles, it rises to 46 metres. Other notable features include medieval stone reredoses, a richly carved wooden pulpit from 1636 and a pipe organ first made in 1820. A concealed 15th-century panelled ceiling was uncovered during restoration in the 1960s.
