St. Michael's Without is an Anglican parish church on Broad Street in Bath, Somerset. It occupies a site near the junction with Walcot Street and Northgate Street. Its traditional name reflects its position beyond Bath’s former northern gateway, where travellers entered the city. Still serving its parish, the church is a notable feature of the northern city-centre skyline and was granted Grade II* protection in 1950.
Christian worship has taken place on this site since the medieval period. A Georgian building, constructed by J. Harvey during the 1730s and 1740s, was succeeded by the present structure in 1837. G. P. Manners, Bath’s city architect, created the limestone building in an Early English Gothic manner. Distinctive elements include pointed aisle windows, a projecting southern tower, an open eight-sided lantern and the prominent spire. Inside are eighteenth-century paintings retained from the former altarpiece, including a work by William Hoare. William Sweetland supplied the organ in 1847, while Wallace Gill altered the interior in 1901.
