About Dockyard Chapel
Dockyard Chapel stands at Pembroke Dock in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Originally serving the Royal Dockyard as its garrison place of worship, it is now a Grade II* listed building. Following restoration, the former chapel became home to Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, operated by the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust.
George Ledwell Taylor, the Navy Board’s Surveyor of Buildings, designed the church during the early 1830s, and construction finished in 1834–35. Galleries and a further entrance were added soon afterwards to provide space for growing attendance. Between 1974 and 1986, the building housed the Pembrokeshire Motor Museum. It was subsequently sold for development and deteriorated before the county council acquired it through compulsory purchase in 2003. The structure was later rebuilt with European Union Objective One financial support.
