About St Brynach's Church

St Brynach's Church is an active Church of England parish church in Nevern, Pembrokeshire. It serves a village in the valley of the River Nevern, close to the Preseli Hills. The building is listed at Grade II*, while its historic burial ground has separate Grade II recognition. Sunday worship takes place at 9:30 am.

A Christian community associated with St Brynach occupied this spot during the sixth century. The surviving church is Norman in origin, though later rebuilding replaced most of its earliest structure. Its embattled tower rises beside the River Caman, whose waters have worn away the adjoining bank. The grounds contain an avenue of yews and several early carved monuments. These include a locally quarried dolerite cross from around the tenth or early eleventh century, together with the much older Vitalianus Stone, marked in Latin and Ogham. Two further inscribed stones form part of the window ledges in the south transept. Antiquarian George Owen lies buried here and has a memorial tablet in Henllys Chapel.
