About St Teilo's Church
St Teilo’s Church is a former Church of England place of worship in Brawdy, Pembrokeshire, dedicated to Saint Teilo. Now redundant, it has been cared for by the Friends of Friendless Churches since its closure in 2002. The church is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Its origins probably reach back to the 12th century, and the building was later used as the local school before falling into ruin by the 1840s. John Coates Carter designed its reconstruction, completed in 1927, using local stone rubble and slate in the Arts and Crafts tradition. The low interior has exposed masonry, simple open-backed pews and a prominent rood screen with a loft and carved Crucifixion. Other details include two stone fonts, slate piscinas and a painted wooden reredos with an ornate carved surround. Stained glass from around 1926 appears in the east window and transept, while glass in the southern nave windows dates from about 1936.
