About St Frideswide's Church
St Frideswide’s Church is an active Church of England parish church beside Botley Road in New Osney, Oxford. Dedicated to Oxford’s patron saint, it serves the Osney and Botley Road area and follows the Anglo-Catholic tradition. The church is protected at Grade II* for its distinctive architectural character.
Samuel Sanders Teulon designed the building, which was constructed between 1870 and 1872 using coursed limestone rubble with dressed-stone details. Its bold Victorian design combines Gothic Revival forms with Romanesque elements, including rounded arches and substantial masonry. Features include a crossing tower with an octagonal turret, housing a bell cast in 1871, and a prominent rose window in the north transept. Inside are a working Hunter pipe organ, an oak altar screen installed in 1906, five Easter-themed windows by Geoffrey Webb from 1931, and fourteen painted wooden angels displayed along the nave walls.
