Saint Mary The Virgin serves as a Church of England parish church in Wheatley, Oxfordshire, near Oxford, and belongs to the Diocese of Oxford. The church remains in parish use and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
George Edmund Street designed the present Gothic Revival church, erected from 1855 to 1857. Its burial ground includes three graves maintained in recognition of Commonwealth service personnel: a Wiltshire Regiment serviceman from the First World War, alongside a naval sailor and an Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry serviceman from the Second World War. Hubert Brasier, once the parish vicar and later known as the father of Prime Minister Theresa May, also had a personal connection to the building, where his daughter’s marriage took place.
