About Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity Church stands on Trinity Road in Headington Quarry, Oxford. It is a Church of England parish church within the Diocese of Oxford and remains active today. The building is protected with Grade II listed status.
George Gilbert Scott designed the church, which was constructed in 1848–49 for the community associated with the working quarry. Bishop of Oxford Samuel Wilberforce placed the foundation stone in June 1848 and later consecrated the completed building. C. S. Lewis and his brother Warren worshipped here from 1930 until their deaths and share a grave in the churchyard. Notable fittings include Sir Ninian Comper’s 1951 east window, depicting Christ in Glory and commemorating the dead of the Second World War, and a Kenneth Tickell organ added in 1992. The north aisle contains a 1991 engraved window by Sally Scott, featuring characters and objects inspired by Lewis’s Narnia stories.
