Northampton Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church on Primrose Hill in Northampton. Dedicated to St Mary and St Thomas, it serves as the cathedral of the Bishop of Northampton and the principal church of a diocese spanning Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and northern parts of Berkshire. It remains an active parish church and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
A permanent Catholic mission began in Northampton in 1823, followed by a chapel dedicated to St Andrew in 1825. As the congregation increased, Augustus Pugin designed a larger collegiate chapel, completed in 1844. His son, Edward Welby Pugin, later created the nave, which opened in 1864. Stained glass by Birmingham maker John Hardman depicts figures including St Peter, Edward the Confessor and Thomas Becket. Further work completed in 1955 added transepts and a crossing tower. The cathedral also contains a tracker-action pipe organ made in 1976 and a digital organ installed in 2008.
