About Church of Holy Cross
The Church of Holy Cross is a Church of England church in Potto, North Yorkshire. It serves as a parish church and has held Grade II listed status since 1966, recognising its architectural and historic importance.
Completed in 1877, the church replaced the earlier place of worship at Whorlton and was designed by T. H. Wyatt. Its sandstone fabric incorporates material taken from Whorlton Castle, while tiled roofs cover the nave, northern aisle, chancel and vestry. A steeple rises at the north-west corner, formed of a three-level tower and a broach spire with openings and a weathervane. Other exterior details include stepped buttresses, a stair turret, lancet windows, a clock and paired bell openings. Inside are a pulpit made from stone and marble, together with several stained-glass windows. Charles Eamer Kempe designed the east window and one of the windows on the south side.
