About Church of St Michael

The Church of St Michael serves as the Church of England parish church for North Otterington in North Yorkshire. It is a Grade II listed building, having received the designation in 1986.

Much of the nave and chancel dates from the 12th century, including an entrance and surviving window fabric. An aisle was introduced on the north side during the 14th century. Following repairs in the 1600s, George Fowler Jones directed a further restoration in 1873, when the east wall was altered, a replacement window installed, and a porch and tower added. Built in stone beneath stone-slate roofing, the church includes a square western bell turret topped by a small pyramidal spire and cross. Inside are pieces of carved masonry from the 10th century and a substantially restored screen dating to the 1400s.
