About Church of St Andrew
The Church of St Andrew is the Church of England parish church serving Kirkby Malzeard in North Yorkshire. It remains the village’s parish church and has held Grade I listed status since 1967.
Although the place name may indicate an earlier Saxon church, the present structure originated in the 12th century, probably during the late 1130s. Parts of the nave’s southern wall, its doorway and the arch into the chancel survive from this period. The nave, chancel and porch were extended during the 13th century, with the western tower and vestry following in the 15th. Built in stone and roofed with lead, the church includes a north aisle and southern porch. Its three-stage tower has buttresses, pinnacles, a clock and a Perpendicular window. The Romanesque south entrance is decorated with scalloped capitals and zigzag moulding. Arthur Blomfield oversaw work from 1878 to 1880, while J. Oldrid Scott completed further restoration in 1910 after a serious fire.
