About Church of the Holy Trinity
The Church of the Holy Trinity is an active Church of England parish church in Ossett, within Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Often called Trinity Church, it occupies an elevated site and is distinguished by a 69-metre spire that forms a prominent local landmark. The church has held Grade II* listed status since 1988.
Built between 1862 and 1865, the church replaced a smaller town-centre building that could no longer accommodate Ossett’s growing population. William Henry Crossland of Halifax designed it in the Gothic Revival style, with Decorated Gothic influences. Its cross-shaped plan includes a five-bay nave, transepts, chancel and central tower, crowned by an octagonal stone spire. Inside, red and grey granite piers support carved capitals, while stained-glass windows illustrate biblical scenes. Restoration supported by English Heritage around the beginning of the 21st century included renewing the slate roofs, followed by repairs to the large eastern and western windows and their stained glass.
