About Church of St Wilfrid

The Church of St Wilfrid is the Church of England parish church serving Kirby Knowle in North Yorkshire. It remains the village’s parish church and has held Grade II listed status since 1966.

Christian worship on the site dates back to the 12th century, with alterations made during the following century. The chancel was reconstructed in 1815, before the earlier building was replaced in 1873–1874 to plans by G. Fowler Jones in the Early English style. Built in stone and roofed with Welsh slate, the church comprises a nave, chancel, northern vestry and south-west tower incorporating a gabled porch. Lancet windows appear throughout, while the east window combines three lancets with quatrefoils. Historic interior features include brass memorials from the 17th and 18th centuries, medieval stonework, a damaged medieval grave slab and a font thought to be from the 17th century.
