About Church of St Agatha
The Church of St Agatha is a privately owned Anglican chapel in Easby, near Stokesley in North Yorkshire. It was added to the statutory list at Grade II in 1966.
A medieval chapel was dedicated at Easby during the 14th century, but was apparently dissolved by the time of Edward VI. James Emerson of Easby Hall commissioned the present chapel in 1881, with James Fowler providing an Early English design. Its two-bay nave and chancel form one continuous space, accompanied by a vestry, a western steeple and an eight-sided mausoleum at the eastern end. The tower has a pointed entrance, timber bell stage and shingled spire crowned with ironwork and a weather vane. Other details include lancet windows, stained glass by Powell Brothers, a small gallery, and a stone pulpit and reredos.
