About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is the Church of England parish church serving Broughton in North Yorkshire. It remains a place of parish worship and has held Grade I listed status since 1954, recognising its exceptional architectural and historic importance.
A church was first documented at Broughton in 1120, and the surviving south doorway and adjoining masonry date from the 12th century. Most of the present structure was probably reconstructed during the early 1500s. Built in stone and roofed with stone slates, it comprises a nave, chancel, northern aisle, southern porch and western tower, largely in the Perpendicular style. The tower features diagonal supports, gargoyles, pinnacles and a battlemented top. William Henry Crossland extensively restored the chancel in 1873 and renewed the nave roof. Interior features include a Norman font, Tempest family memorials and two alabaster figures of the Virgin Mary discovered during the Victorian work.
