About St Helen's Church, Santon
St Helen’s Church, Santon was a medieval church near Santon in the Thetford area of Norfolk. The building no longer survives, but its former location is protected as a scheduled monument. It is therefore an archaeological site rather than an active place of worship, preserving evidence of a church that had disappeared before the later Middle Ages.
The church was recorded in the Domesday survey as part of Archbishop Stigand’s holdings at Thetford, then administered by William de Noiers on the king’s behalf. The entry associated it with one ploughland, showing that the church formed part of a landed estate at that time. It had ceased to exist by 1368. No surviving details establish its architectural form, construction materials or internal features.
