About Saint Cadoc
Saint Cadoc is an active Church of England parish church in Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales. Dating from the medieval period, it is recognised as a Grade II* listed building and remains in use as a place of parish worship.
The present church developed between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries under the de Clare and Bluet families. Its nave and chancel are mainly fourteenth-century work in the Decorated Gothic style, while the west tower was added during the fifteenth century. The Herbert family of Raglan Castle enlarged the building, and the Somersets later created the north chapel. This contains damaged tombs commemorating members of the Worcester family, whose crypt lies beneath. Thomas Henry Wyatt directed extensive restoration in 1867–68, including a new Lady Chapel and the church’s stained glass. Other features include a clock with three faces, an early font recovered in the twentieth century, and surviving late-medieval roof timbers uncovered during repairs in 2016.
