About St Cybi Church

St Cybi Church is a Church of England place of worship on Usk Road in Llangybi, Monmouthshire. Still serving its parish, it belongs to the Heart of Monmouthshire Ministry Area and has Grade II* protection. Its dedication recalls the sixth-century Cornish holy man Cybi, traditionally associated with establishing worship on the site.

The existing church was built during the thirteenth or fourteenth century and displays Perpendicular Gothic design. The two-level western tower lacks external buttress supports, and an old timber roof survives above the nave. Alterations were made in the fifteenth and early eighteenth centuries, with a substantial restoration following in 1909–10. Medieval murals uncovered after long concealment include scenes of the Creed and Christ of the Trades, the latter created around 1460. The interior also contains painted lettering from the seventeenth century, a reconstructed Georgian pulpit and sounding board, Victorian seating, funerary memorials and a renovated organ dating to 1933.
