About St Cadoc

St Cadoc is a Church of England parish church in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, near the hamlet of The Bryn and on the southern side of the River Usk. It remains in parish use and holds Grade II* listed status.

The church has earlier origins, although its oldest securely dated fabric belongs to the 15th century. Built from Old Red Sandstone in the Perpendicular style, it was reconstructed in 1827 under Gloucestershire engineer John Upton. John Prichard directed a further restoration in 1864–65, after which the building saw relatively little alteration. Its restrained interior contains an unusual group of medieval wall tiles, including one bearing the date 1456. Similar tiles are found at notable medieval religious sites including Tintern Abbey, St Mary’s Priory Church in Monmouth and St David’s Church at Llanthony.
