About St Patrick's Church, Liverpool
St Patrick’s Church, Liverpool is a Roman Catholic church on Park Place in Liverpool, Merseyside. It remains an active parish within the Archdiocese of Liverpool and forms part of the Liverpool South pastoral area. The church is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Designed by John Slater, the church was constructed from 1821 and completed in 1827. Its Neoclassical exterior is built of brick above a stone base, with stone detailing and roofs covered in slate. A statue of Saint Patrick, presented by sugar refiner James Branker, was installed on the west front in 1827. Inside, cast-iron columns support galleries along three sides, while the panelled plaster ceiling includes a carved foliage roundel. The altar is overlooked by a Crucifixion painted around 1834 by Antwerp artist Nicaise de Keyser. The organ dates from 1827 and was rebuilt in 1927, then enlarged during further work in 1953, when a baldachino was also added.
