About Saint Giles

Saint Giles is a Church of England parish church in the St Giles suburb of Lincoln, Lincolnshire. It continues to serve local worshippers and supports the wider neighbourhood through community outreach and a food bank. The church has held Grade II listed status since 1953.

William Watkins designed the present building, completed on a new site in 1936 after the parish’s former church, St Peter at Arches, was demolished in 1930. Its enlarged layout followed that of its eighteenth-century predecessor, and numerous older materials were incorporated into the new structure. Classical in design, the church is built of brick with stone detailing and copper roofing. Its tower includes a clock, bell openings and an ornamental balustrade. Inside are an eighteenth-century alabaster font, organ, gallery stairs and iron altar rail, alongside a nineteenth-century pulpit, wooden screen and stained glass. Some doors also contain medieval stone fragments.
