About Church of St Lawrence
The Church of St Lawrence is a Church of England parish church in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. It remains in parish use and is protected as a Grade I listed building, a designation awarded in November 1966.
Dating from the fifteenth century, the church replaced an earlier place of worship on the same site. Its walls combine rough limestone, finely worked stone details and brick. The bricks share their origin and period with those used at Tattershall Castle. Stone fragments from Bardney Abbey were reused within the building, reflecting a time when both the abbey and church served as local places of worship before the abbey’s closure in 1538. Restoration work was carried out during the seventeenth century and again from 1873 to 1879. Notable interior features include stained glass designed by Charles Eamer Kempe.
