About St Andrew & St Mary

St Andrew & St Mary stands on Village Street at Stoke Rochford, near Grantham in Lincolnshire. It is a Church of England parish church serving Stoke Rochford with Easton and forms part of the Diocese of Lincoln. The building has Grade I listed status and lies inside Stoke Rochford’s designated conservation area.

Evidence in the fabric indicates origins around the 11th century, consistent with the recorded construction date of 1050. Much of the nave is Norman, while a moulded detail on the western tower may be similarly early. Ralph Rochford provided a southern chancel chapel in 1448, and his brother Henry added the northern chapel between about 1460 and 1470. Architectural pieces from former places of worship at North Stoke and Ganthorpe were later incorporated. The churchyard holds fragments of an interlaced limestone cross dating from the 11th century. Inside are memorials connected with the Cholmeley family of Easton Hall and the Turnor family of Stoke Rochford Hall. Parish records survive from 1663.
