About Saint Martin
Saint Martin is a Church of England parish church in Ancaster, six miles north-east of Grantham in Lincolnshire. Dedicated to Martin of Tours, it belongs to the Diocese of Lincoln and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
Dating from 1050, the church is built of local Ancaster stone and combines Norman, Early English and Decorated Gothic work. Its plan includes a chancel, aisled nave, south porch and western tower, which has five bells, battlements and a spire. The north arcade dates from about 1160–70, while other notable features include a 12th-century font, 15th-century clerestory windows, medieval effigies and several memorials. The nave was repaired and refitted in 1859, the organ and font were repositioned in 1898–99, and the tower underwent restoration in 1912. Stained glass is found in the chancel and at the west end.
