About Finkin Street Methodist Church
Finkin Street Methodist Church is in Grantham, Lincolnshire, and has Grade II listed protection. The building remains a place of weekly worship for ChristChurch Grantham, an ecumenical congregation bringing together Methodist and United Reformed traditions. Since 2011, the united congregation has made the Finkin Street property its permanent home.
The Wesleyan chapel dates from 1840. Margaret Thatcher worshipped here when she was young, while her father, Alfred Roberts, preached locally within the congregation. A lectern was later dedicated in his memory. ChristChurch Grantham came into being in 2008, when worshippers from Central Methodist Church combined with those of the United Reformed congregation formerly based at St Peter’s Hill in Castlegate. Three years later, they chose to retain the Methodist chapel and dispose of the Castlegate property.
