About St Vincent's Church, Caythorpe

St Vincent’s Church, Caythorpe, is an Anglican parish church in the Lincolnshire village of Caythorpe, roughly ten miles north of Grantham. Situated close to Lincoln Cliff’s southern limit, it forms part of a local group of parishes within Lincoln Diocese. It remains in ecclesiastical use and is protected at Grade I. Its dedication to Vincent of Saragossa is shared by only three other English churches.

Two places of worship existed in Caythorpe in 1086, but today’s structure arose mainly during the first half of the fourteenth century, possibly with financial support from Lady Elizabeth de Burgh. Lightning caused the upper spire to collapse onto other parts of the building in 1859. George Gilbert Scott reconstructed it at a reduced height the following year and also created an additional aisle on the north side. The unusual paired naves are especially notable. Memorials commemorate the Hussey family and astronomer Edmund Weaver, while the fittings include eight bells and an organ dating to 1871, substantially refurbished in 1986.
