About Church of St Andrew, Rippingale
The Church of St Andrew, Rippingale, is an active Church of England parish church in the Bourne area of Lincolnshire. It belongs to the Diocese of Lincoln’s Ringstone-in-Aveland group, with services taking place regularly. Recognised for its exceptional historic and architectural importance, the church has Grade I listed status.
The earliest surviving fabric dates from about 1250, although an earlier church may have occupied the site by 1086. Building continued around 1300, with substantial additions made in the mid-14th century, followed by the west tower in the 15th century. A restoration took place in 1860. Limestone rubble and dressed limestone form most of the structure, supplemented by red brick and rendered sections beneath lead roofs. Six pointed arches divide the nave from the broad south aisle. Notable features include a weathered early-15th-century stone font, the prominent Perpendicular Gothic tower, a historic parish bier and a churchyard sundial installed in 2001 as a copy of an 18th-century predecessor.
