About Great Glen Methodist Church
Great Glen Methodist Church is an active place of worship in Leicester, Leicestershire, and is protected as a Grade II listed building. Sunday morning worship is complemented by regular opportunities for prayer, Bible study and fellowship. The church also hosts Saturday coffee mornings, a fortnightly youth club and Sparklers, a group for children under four run jointly with the Anglican congregation at St Cuthbert’s.
The church dates from 1827. Its congregation historically included many local craftspeople, who often carried out repairs and improvements voluntarily. A project to provide space for the growing Sunday school began in 1868, with architectural plans prepared in 1876. The hall on the eastern side was completed and opened in 1879. Further building work in 1989 connected the original church and Sunday school, while adding toilets, a separate entrance and another meeting room named for Ruth Warner, a notable twentieth-century member of the congregation.
