About St Botolph's
St Botolph’s is a Church of England parish church in Slapton, near Towcester, Northamptonshire, with an address on Chapel Lane. Standing on raised ground at the northern end of the village, it remains the parish church and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
The church dates from the late twelfth or early thirteenth century, with further work carried out during the fourteenth century. Built of local limestone and ironstone, it comprises a chancel, nave, south Lady Chapel, porch and western tower, which was rebuilt in 1878–79. Its most notable features are the extensive medieval wall paintings, created between the fourteenth and early sixteenth centuries and rediscovered from the 1950s to the 1970s. Subjects include St Christopher, St George, the Weighing of Souls and the Annunciation. The east window incorporates the arms of the De Lucy family, while monuments also commemorate the Knight family.
