About Christ Church
Christ Church stands on Meadows Avenue in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire. This Church of England place of worship remains an active parish church within the Diocese of Blackburn, under the Archdeaconry of Lancaster and Poulton deanery.
The church has served the parish since 1836. Joseph Parkinson designed the original building, which was erected between 1835 and 1837, while Austin, Paley and Austin added the chancel in 1913–14. In 1963, Leach, Rhodes and Walker reconstructed the nave and introduced a tower and parish rooms. Yellow sandstone walls are complemented by red sandstone detailing in a Free Perpendicular design. The tower rises from the single-storey rooms to the south-west and has an open section for bells beneath a saddleback roof. Inside are stained-glass windows created by Brian Clarke and fitted in 1975, together with a pipe organ made by Liverpool firm Rushworth & Dreaper in 1950, although the instrument is no longer operational.
