About St Paul's Church

St Paul's Church is a former Anglican place of worship in Preston's St Paul's Square. It has Grade II listed status and was closed for parish use in 1979. After serving as radio studios between 1981 and 2020, the building was converted to office use.

Thomas Rickman and Henry Hutchinson designed the church, which was erected from 1823 to 1825 with a contribution from the Church Building Commission. In 1882, T. H. Myers extended it with a chancel and established a baptistery inside. Built of sandstone beneath tiled roofing, it follows the Early English Gothic style. The layout includes an aisled nave divided into seven bays and a chancel spanning two bays. Lancets, buttresses and narrow eight-sided turrets shape the exterior, while pinnacles topped by quatrefoil ornaments mark both ends. A sandstone memorial crowned by a Celtic-style cross occupies the northern corner of the grounds.
