About Inglewhite Congregational Church

Inglewhite Congregational Church stands on Silk Mill Lane in the village of Inglewhite, near Preston in Lancashire. The Grade II listed church serves a Congregational community and hosts a playgroup each week. In 2011, Preston City Council identified it as a place of particular local interest, and plans were commissioned that year for a £450,000 extension to provide space for a growing congregation.

Founded in 1819, the congregation was first called Silk Mill Lane Independent Church and adopted its present denominational name later in the nineteenth century. The current building dates from 1826. It is rectangular, with a side addition, and is constructed from sandstone with some rendered sections, stone corner blocks and slate roofing. Its balanced gabled frontage contains an arched entrance with a fanlight and inscription, while rounded windows appear above the doorway and along the other elevations.
