About Church of Saint Luke
The Church of Saint Luke is an active Church of England parish church on Mainway in Skerton, a suburb of Lancaster in Lancashire. It continues to serve as Skerton’s parish church and is protected for its historic and architectural interest through its designation as a Grade II listed building.
The church dates from 1833, when it was constructed to serve the parish of Skerton. At that time, Skerton was a township within the historic Lonsdale hundred, rather than part of the city as it is today. This setting changed in 1974, when Skerton was incorporated into the City of Lancaster. The surviving church building therefore predates that administrative change by more than a century and reflects Skerton’s earlier identity as a separate township.
