About St Peter's
St Peter’s is a Church of England parish church in Fleetwood, Lancashire, near the Fylde coast. It remains in use for parish worship and belongs to the Diocese of Blackburn. The church has held Grade II listed status since 1978.
Decimus Burton designed the church as part of Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood’s planned town. Construction took place between 1839 and 1841, with consecration following in 1841. Built on elevated ground in central Fleetwood, it uses rough-faced grey stone with dressed red sandstone details and has lancet windows in its tower and side walls. The nave has no aisles. Anna-Maria Hesketh funded the tower and its original spire, which was removed as unsafe in 1904. Paley and Austin reshaped the eastern section in 1883, introducing a chancel, organ chamber and chapel arranged across the main axis.
