About St. Mary's
St. Mary's is an active Roman Catholic church in Fleetwood, Lancashire, within the Diocese of Lancaster. The building has held Grade II listed status since 1978, recognising its architectural and historic importance.
E. W. Pugin provided the design, and Fleetwood builder T. A. Drummond constructed the church between 1866 and 1867 at a cost of £4,000. Bishop Alexander Goss placed the foundation stone on 17 May 1866 and consecrated the completed building in November 1867. Rock-faced stone walls are finished with dressed ashlar, while steep slate roofs cover the nave and chancel. Lower aisles stand on either side, with a many-sided apse at the east end. The church has no tower. Its west front includes two substantial triple-lancet windows and a niche with a figure of Jesus Christ.
