About St Thomas' Church, Blackburn
St Thomas' Church, Blackburn was a Church of England parish church in Blackburn, Lancashire. It formerly stood on Lambeth Street, on the stretch bounded by Billinge Street and Skiddaw Street. The church ceased to serve its parish in 1977 and was subsequently demolished.
Lancaster architect E. G. Paley produced an initial scheme in 1859, although construction did not take place until 1864–65. Paley first proposed a brick building, but the patron required stone instead. Plans originally provided accommodation for 766 worshippers, later enlarged to hold 1,054. Construction cost £4,469 at the time.
