About Church of St Peter and St Paul, Teston

The Church of St Peter and St Paul, Teston is a Church of England parish church in West Farleigh, Kent. It remains in parish use and is protected at Grade II* for its special architectural and historic interest.

Sir Philip Boteler of Barham Court commissioned the church’s rebuilding in 1736. Its cruciform structure uses ragstone masonry with dressed stone details and a tiled roof. A two-stage western tower carries a brick parapet and an octagonal, timber-shingled spire topped by a weather vane. The nave has paired round-headed windows, while pointed three-light windows dating from the 19th century appear in the transepts and chancel. Inside are a medieval stone ambry, an adapted medieval window forming the sedile, an 18th-century hexagonal wooden pulpit and an octagonal stone font. The churchyard includes memorials to the abolitionist and vicar James Ramsey, alongside listed monuments commemorating Henry Lomas and Susanna Field.
