About St Augustine's Church, Flimwell

St Augustine’s Church, Flimwell is an active Church of England parish church in Ticehurst, Kent. Dedicated to St Augustine of Canterbury, it has roots in the Anglo-Catholic tradition and is protected as a Grade II listed building. Since 1978, its parish has formed a united benefice with St Mary’s Church in Ticehurst.

Consecrated in 1839, the church was designed by Decimus Burton and initially comprised the present nave with a low, flat-topped tower. A shingled spire and the chancel were added around 1872. Constructed from stone beneath a slate roof, the aisleless building is entered through a lychgate. Its tower holds four bells, three presented in 1873 and a fourth funded by the bellringers the following year. Interior details include an intricately carved oak pulpit, exposed timber roof beams, a small pipe organ in the chancel and memorials commemorating local people killed in both world wars.
