About Ss Peter and Paul's Church
Ss Peter and Paul’s Church is a Church of England parish church on Church Lane in East Sutton, Kent. Dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul, it is protected as a Grade I listed building.
Work on the church started no later than the middle of the 13th century, with further development during the following three centuries. Built in roughly laid courses of stone beneath tiled roofs, it has a three-level medieval western tower crowned by battlements. The 14th-century nave is bordered by aisles dating from the early 15th century, while chapels stand beside the chancel. Notable details include a 13th-century six-sided font supported by seven columns, crown-post roof structures, and a carved hexagonal pulpit from the early 17th century. Numerous memorials commemorate the Filmer family of nearby East Sutton Park. Restoration campaigns took place in 1897–98 and from 1984 to 1995.
