The Church of Saint Mary serves a Church of England parish in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Situated on Hemel Hempstead Road, it remains in use for worship, with a Sunday service at 4.00 pm. Its exceptional historic and architectural significance is recognised through Grade I listing.
Originating in the twelfth century, the earliest surviving fabric lies in the main body and tower at the western end. The aisle on the north side was created circa 1140, followed by the chancel about two centuries later. Further medieval development included a southern aisle, chapel and porch, with the upper row of nave windows completed around 1478. Mayer of London and Munich designed the commemorative east window, which was fitted in 1886. Among the monuments are those associated with Richard Peacock, Sir Richard Rede, and Eignon Bignon and his wife. Forster and Andrews made the pipe organ in 1888; after two twentieth-century rebuilds, Vincent Woodstock restored it in 2005.
