About Royal Garrison Church of All Saints

The Royal Garrison Church of All Saints stands on Farnborough Road in Aldershot, Hampshire. It is a Church of England place of worship serving Anglican members of the military community at Aldershot Garrison. The church remains a prominent local landmark and is protected as a Grade II listed building.

Completed in 1863, the church was designed by Philip Hardwick after Aldershot became a permanent military camp. Its Gothic Revival exterior is built from red brick laid in English bond, leading to its informal name, the Red Church. The building is 143 feet long, accommodates 1,250 people and has a 170-foot spire. Inside, the largest stained-glass window commemorates members of the 37th Hampshires who died during the Indian Mutiny. The south porch contains the Somme Cross, a wooden memorial made after fighting at High Wood in 1916 and moved into the church in 1939.
