About Holy Trinity Church, Aldershot
Holy Trinity Church, Aldershot is an active Church of England parish church on Victoria Road, ministering to central Aldershot. It is among the town’s four Anglican churches, forms part of the Diocese of Guildford and has been protected at Grade II since 1980.
The need for a place of worship closer to the expanding town and nearby military camp led to its construction between 1875 and 1878. Farnham architect Sidney Stapley drew on medieval Early English forms for the design. The structure combines brick, regularly laid rubble stone and dressed ashlar beneath a sharply sloping slate roof. Its layout incorporates a clerestoried nave divided into five sections, side aisles and a two-section chancel. Insufficient funding left Stapley’s proposed spire and tower unbuilt. Interior details include Freemasonry symbols, commemorative brasswork connected with the Anglo-Zulu War, and a north window influenced by Pre-Raphaelite art. The large western window remembers 53 local men killed during the First World War.
