St Mary’s Church, Pentraeth stands on Ffordd Pentraeth in the centre of the village in Gwynedd, on Anglesey. It remains an active Church in Wales parish church and forms part of a united parish with two other churches. The building holds Grade II listed status, recognising its historic fabric and notable memorials.
The present church is thought to have originated between the 12th and 14th centuries, although a place of worship dedicated to St Mary was documented on the site in 1254. Medieval masonry survives in the west wall and sections of the north and south walls. Built of rubble stone beneath a slate roof, the church has a single-bell stone bellcote. A southern chapel dates from around the late 16th or early 17th century. Following earlier 19th-century alterations, diocesan architect Henry Kennedy directed substantial rebuilding in 1882. The porch contains a basin fashioned from part of a font believed to be from the 12th century.
