About St Gallgo's Church, Llanallgo

St Gallgo’s Church, Llanallgo is a small active parish church near Moelfre on the eastern side of Anglesey, Gwynedd. It belongs to a parish shared with three other churches, with worship held regularly in both Welsh and English. The church is protected as a Grade II listed building and is noted for its rural setting and distinctive Perpendicular Gothic character.

Christian worship may have begun on the site in the sixth or early seventh century, when Gallgo is said to have founded a church here. The chancel and transepts are the earliest surviving sections of the present structure, dating from the later fifteenth century. Repairs in 1831 added a window at the western end, while an extensive restoration in 1892 lengthened the nave and reconstructed parts of the transepts. Inside is a bell made in the late thirteenth century, bearing the imprint of an Edward I coin, alongside memorials from several later centuries and early twentieth-century Arts and Crafts furnishings.
