About St Deiniol's Church

St Deiniol's Church is in the Anglesey village of Llanddaniel Fab, Gwynedd. Formerly a Church of England parish church, it has ceased holding services, and worshippers are now served by St Mary’s in Llanfairpwll. It is protected at Grade II as a notable example of an unpretentious Victorian country church.

Local tradition places the foundation of a church here in 616, attributing it to Deiniol Fab, whose father was Bangor’s earliest bishop. No fabric from that period remains. Henry Kennedy supervised repairs in 1873 and designed a vestry on the northern side. The Gothic Revival building follows Early English forms, with walls of rough stone, limestone detailing and slate roofing. Earlier elements include the font, an eighteenth-century porch monument and possibly portions of the nave masonry. Medieval stonework frames the vestry doorway, while the central arch stone bears a sculpted face. Above the western gable is a cross-topped bell opening housing one bell.
